Jazz Fans Everywhere Are Smiling

Jazz fans everywhere have a nice smile on their face after the Lakers were beaten for the second time in as many games in the 2008 NBA Playoffs.

Yes, Jazz fans hate the Lakers, and they love to see them lose.

But that isn’t exactly why they are smiling.

Digression: They really ought to make the officiating more consistent, by the way. I agree that we can’t have a foul called on every possession because then we have a very boring game — a tedious outing where nobody can build up any momentum and we are reduced to watching a parade of players marching to the free throw line — a game which ultimately ends when players start fouling out and a team is left with too few players to compete.

But honestly, if they aren’t going to make the calls, they need to remove them from the rule book.

The Lakers are crying foul because the Celtics were going to the free throw line when they were fouled, and the Lakers were not, often in surprisingly similary situations.

Hmm.

Isn’t that interesting?

Isn’t that what just happened to the Utah Jazz a few weeks ago?

You bet it is!

Didn’t we decry the officiating, often to mocking comments by sports analysts everywhere. Now those same sports analysts can suddenly see the problem.

Well, it couldn’t have happened to a better team and in a more poetically just fashion.

Ah, sweet revenge.

(Let’s just hope it stays in the Celtics favor.)
