Revisiting Deron Williams vs Chris Paul

Perhaps because of the bashing done during the rookie year of Deron Williams and Chris Paul (with the media being critical of Utah picking Deron Williams over Chris Paul), we are destined to repeat this discussion in blogs, radio, and television year after year, but I really think we as Jazz fans need to be satisfied that the picking of Deron Williams was justified and leave it at that.

I constantly see lists of who the ten best point guards in the nation are with media, ex-players, and fans getting into the mix. Nobody seems to really care where Chauncey Billups, Jason Kidd, Tony Parker, and Gilbert Arenas are in these lists. They throw these names in for show — to validate the rankings in some way. What it really comes down to — STILL — is whether the Utah Jazz picked the best point guard in the draft when they picked Deron Williams over Chris Paul.

Utah Jazz defensive woes continue

The Good News

The Jazz have had a few moments where they have found it difficult to score, but for the most part the balls seem to be falling pretty regularly for the Utah Jazz. Ronnie Brewer continues to put up good offensive numbers, making it very difficult for other teams to double team anybody on the Jazz for fear of leaving someone else wide open. Even the bench seems to be doing pretty well in the scoring department.

Utah Jazz lose to the Houston Rockets

The Houston Rockets apparently still had a grudge for losing the seventh game to the Utah Jazz in the first round last year.

They came into the Energy Solutions Arena and beat the Jazz, largely behind the play of one man — Tracy McGrady. The Utah Jazz are known to allow high profile shooting guards to have their way offensively — which is largely the reason why they picked up Jason Hart and Ronnie Price in the offseason.

Well, apparently they haven’t improved much in that department as McGrady went off for 47 points, but it is still early in the season. (more…)
