17 points, 75% FG, and 2 steals vs. the Milwaukee Bucks preseason squad.
18 points and 6 rebounds vs. the Detroit Pistons preseason squad.
It’s only the preseason (which makes it really hard to tell if he will really be given the minutes and how he will stack up against the starting 2 guards in the league), but it looks like second year guard Ronnie Brewer has come to play.
Point guard Deron Williams said of Ronnie Brewer in camp last week, “Ronnie Brewer’s been, I would probably say, the best player in camp. He’s been crazy.” And Sloan, at the same time, had praise for Ronnie saying, “Ronnie’s played extremely well. He’s in terrific shape. He’s gotten stronger, he’s gotten a little bit bigger. He’s playing with a great deal of confidence.”
Of course, this week he isn’t giving him praise. He’s telling him he has to get better. Has to play better defense. Has to learn better to shoot from the outside. Sloan did grudgingly acknowledge that he has been working hard to get better.
With Sloan, working hard is the most important thing.
I had my doubts, but it looks like we won’t be nearly as weak at two guard as we were last year — even if we won’t have a star coming in at that position.
Ronnie Brewer’s Third Game stat line.
28 points, 83% FG, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 5 steals in only 24 minutes.
Hopefully this preseason translates into something real in the regular season, where it really counts.
